Why Volunteer?

Shaler Villa Volunteer Fire Company (VFC) is always looking
for new members! Whether you’re interested in firefighting, Quick Response
Services (QRS/EMS), or supporting the station through administrative or
fundraising roles, we have opportunities for everyone aged 15 and up to get
involved and make a difference in the community. Our variety of membership
types ensures that everyone can find a way to contribute to our mission. Below
are the descriptions of each type of membership. Feel free to reach out if you’re
interested in volunteering! Applications are available online, or you may stop
by the station on Thursday evenings at 19:00. Join us and become part of the

Membership Opportunities

Active Member - Firefighter

Requirements:

Must
be 18 years old.

Complete
the Essentials of Firefighting Training at the Allegheny County Fire
Academy within your first year.

Fulfill
25% of hours of fundraising each year.

Membership
Status:

You
will begin with a one-year Probationary Membership, during which you will
receive mentorship and training to prepare for full Active Member status.

Junior Member

Requirements:

Open
to ages 14-18.

Must
have parental consent.

Submit
all report cards with no failing grades to ensure academic success.

Fulfill
25% of hours of fundraising each year.

Restrictions:

Age-based
restrictions apply, such as limited roles on emergency scenes, which will
be explained during a meeting with the Line Officers and parents.

Opportunities:

Junior
Members receive valuable training and hands-on experience that prepares
them for future Active Membership while fostering teamwork and
responsibility.

Business Member

Requirements:

Must
be 18 years old.

Participate
in 50% of fundraising functions annually.

Role:

Business
Members do not respond to fire calls or engage in fireground activities.
Instead, they play a crucial role in supporting the financial and
operational needs of the company through event coordination,
administrative tasks, and community outreach.

Additional Opportunities

Shaler Township Fire Police

The Township of Shaler is accepting applications for Fire
Police Officers. Fire Police assist Shaler Police with traffic control at
emergency scenes and support special events within the Township. Training is
provided in collaboration with the Shaler Police Department, Fire Departments,
and EMS, covering:

Traffic
Direction

First
Aid and CPR

NIMS
Awareness

Haz-Mat
Awareness

Orientation
in Police, Fire, and Emergency Medical operations
